Haluaitsitko irti arjen rutiineista? Toivoisitko tilaa uudelle?
Luopuminen on esitys, joka tapahtuu katsojassa. Sen puitteissa katsoja elää puoli vuorokautta esityksellistä aikaa meren rannalla sijaitsevalla huvilalla Helsingin Laajasalossa.
Retriitti ( lat. retraho, ’noutaa takaisin’; engl. retreat , ’vetäytyminen’) on mahdollisuus irtaantua omasta tavanomaisesta elämästä, rytmistä ja ympäristöstä. Se on vanha vastaus uuteen kysymykseen, arkaainen itsetutkiskelun muoto, jota nykyaikainen elämä kaipaa vastapainokseen.
Retriitin olemukseen liittyy ajatus luopumisesta: oma olemassaolo määritellään uudelleen jättämällä sekä materiaaliset että psyykkiset totunnaisuudet hetkeksi sivuun. Tavanomaisen elämän kehyksistä luopuminen vie retriitissä asteittain syvemmälle omaan sisäiseen maailmaan.
Tapahtumapaikkana on vanha huvila, jonka sisällä ja piha-alueella yleisö elää esityksen ajan. Esitys alkaa ennen auringonlaskua ja loppuu auringonnousun jälkeen. Tänä aikana sekä sosiaaliset että yksityiset arkitoiminnot – syöminen, peseytyminen, nukkuminen ym. – sulautuvat esityksen sisään.

Renunciation is a performance that takes place inside the spectator. During the performance the spectator lives 13 hours of performative time on a villa by the sea side of Laajasalo, Helsinki.
A retreat is a possibility to detach from ordinary life, rhythm and environment. It is a new answer to an old question: an archaic form of self-inquiry, whit the help of which the life in the 21st century world yearns to balance it’s own complexity.
Retreat as an act encompasses in itself the theme of renunciation: own way of being is re-defined by leaving behind the matrial and psychological conventions of every-day life. This withdrawal takes the participant of the retreat stage by stage deeper into his own inner world.
The performance approaches the participant as a bodily being – through perceptions, encounterings, touches, suggestions, spaces and situations.
The location is an old wooden villa, inside and outside of which the audience lives through the performance. The performance starts before sunset and ends after sunrise. During this time both social and private every-day actions – eating, washing up, sleeping etc. – blend into the performance.

The performance starts at intervals from 6 pm on. The exact time is determined by the rhythm of nature and is also personal for each spectator. The performance will end by 9 am.
